Due to the occurrence of natural disasters like earthquakes or hurricanes, many families are displaced. Normally, they require necessities like food, shelter and clothing. In such cases, tarps come in handy.
A tarp is called as a tarpaulin in some countries. It refers to a big sheet of flexible, durable and water-resistant material. Normally, the material is made of cloth like canvas. However, it could also be made of polyester coated with urethane or plastics such as polyethylene.
Although it is possible to use camp tents as temporary shelters for victims of natural disasters but, many non-governmental organizations prefer to supply tarps instead. Apart from being expensive, camp tents also take up much space. As you may know, space is considered precious in the allocated areas for displaced families.
Moreover, a camp tent is believed to be less efficient compared to a tarp. Tarps can be used for two main purposes. The first one is as a roof cover. Natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes are bound to cause some sort of damage to roofs.
By using a tarp as a temporary roof cover, further damage to the roof can be avoided. If there is serious damage to the roofing, rebuilding might be required. Hence, it is important to cover the roofs on a temporary basis and avoid more expenditure.
A tarp can also be used as a camp tent. By using ropes to tie the tarp to trees, a simple and strong camp tent can be set up. Considering the benefits of using tarps, it is not surprising that many international aid organizations prefer to supply them instead of camp tents.
In relation to this, you can use tarps as a camp tent when you go camping. Alternatively, you can use it to cover a damp ground and have a picnic outdoors with friends or family members.
